1. Insert CD #1 into your CD-Rom drive.
2. The auto-run screen should appear within a few seconds.
   • If the auto-run screen appears:
     1. Left click on the INSTALL VIRTUAL POOL 2 words.
     2. The game will now begin the installation process.
     3. If you do NOT have DirectX 5 installed on your computer, make sure you first install DirectX 5 by left clicking on the line with the words INSTALL DIRECTX 5.
     4. If you have an older version of DirectX, you will want to have the game update your computer to DirectX 5.
     5. Depending on how much of an updated was needed or if DirectX was installed for the first time, you may be prompted to reboot the system after the installation is completed.
   • If the auto-run screen DOES NOT appear:
     1. Double click on the MY COMPUTER icon on your desktop.
     2. Double click on your CD-ROM drive icon.
     3. Double click on the AUTORUN.EXE file.
     4. The game will now begin the installation proceedure.
     5. If you do NOT have DirectX 5 installed on your computer, make sure you left click on the words INSTALL DIRECTX 5 before installing the game.
     6. If you have an older version of DirectX, you will want to have the game update your computer to DirectX 5.
     7. Depending on how much of an updated was needed or if DirectX was installed for the first time, you may be prompted to reboot the system after the installation is completed.
     8. If you have DirectX 5 on your computer, left click on the words INSTALL VIRTUAL POOL 2 from the autorun.exe file.

Game Executable: Autorun menu PLAY VIRTUAL POOL 2 option or VP2.EXE

To Start Game:
In Windows 95 -

1. Insert the Virtual Pool 2 cd into your CD-ROM drive.
2. On the autorun menu click on the PLAY button.
   1. If the AUTORUN screen does not come up for your game, try removing and then re-inserting the Virtual Pool 2 cd back into your cd-rom drive.
3. If that does not help, make sure you have AUTOINSERT NOTIFICATION turned ON.
   1. To turn on or off the AUTO INSERT NOTIFICATION,
      • Go to the START button,
      • Select SETTINGS, then
      • CONTROL PANEL,
      • Double click the SYSTEM icon,
      • Select the DEVICE MANAGER TAB,
      • Locate CD-ROM, and double click it.
      • Then click on the information that appears below CD-ROM and select
      • PROPERTIES.
      • Select the SETTINGS TAB,
      • look for the AUTO INSERT NOTIFICATION option, click on the box next to this option to put a check mark in the box if you want the auto insert notification turned on.
      • Click on the APPLY button, then click on OK.

NOTE: Auto insert notification, when turned on, causes the games autorun menu to appear on your monitor when you insert a cd into your cdrom drive that has an AUTORUN menu on it. This is normally a convenient way to start a game.

Problem: Game is not working on Windows XP
1. Problem: I can't get D3D to work with my acceleration card, it's all grayed out.
2. Problem: Receiving an error message that Dplayx.dll or some similar file is missing.
3. Problem: Receiving error message - "Cannot find background file. Reinstall Virtual Pool 2."
4. Problem: Receiving error "not enough texture memory" when trying to enable hardware acceleration with a Riva 128 based video card.
5. Problem: I have the DVD version and the movies are not playing.
6. Problem: Receiving error "Unable to load profile.dll. Reinstall Virtual Pool 2.".

Problem: Game is not working on Windows XP
Solution: You should be able to get Virtual Pool 2 to work on XP by running the "setup.exe" file manually from the "Windows" folder found on the game CD, and once installed setting the game shortcut to Windows 95 compatibility mode. To do this, right-click on the shortcut for the game (or the game executable in the Start/Programs menu), choose properties, click the compatibility tab, and then check to run in Windows 95 compatibility mode.

Problem: I can't get D3D to work with my acceleration card, it's all grayed out.
Solution: The demo of Virtual Pool 2 does not support 3D acceleration, just the full retail version of the game. If you have the demo of Virtual Pool 2 will have this option grayed out and unavailable, regardless of your computer's present D3D support.

The full retial version supports Microsoft's standard Direct 3D API. Video cards which correctly support Microsoft's Direct 3D API will run the game in an accelerated mode. You will most likely want to contact your video card manufacturer and try to find out if you video card supports D3D, and at what level, and if there is anyway to boost the compatibility of your video card to meet Microsoft's latest D3D standerd. Most of the time this will simply invlove downloading the latest DirectX Drivers for your 3D accelerator card from your manufacturer's website.

If your accelerator card uses the 3DFX chipset, you might also try downlaoding the development drivers for the 3DFX board itself at www.3dfx.com as an alternative option to using the manufacturer default drivers, particularly if your manufacturer has not updated his drivers for some time.

Problem: Receiving an error message that Dplayx.dll or some similar file is missing.
Solution: It sounds like you might not have DirectX installed on your system or it may be improperly installed. Unfortunately, this game needs DirectX installed to work correctly. You may want to contact your system manufacturer to get an updated copy of it or you can try downloading it from the Microsoft website.

Problem: Receiving error message - 'Cannot find background file. Reinstall Virtual Pool 2.'
Solution: This seems to happen with Windows98. It appears to be directly related to the display settings of the machine and running the game in a desktop mode. You can download our patch to correct this trouble.

Problem: Receiving error "not enough texture memory" when trying to enable hardware acceleration with a Riva 128 based video card.
Solution: Virtual Pool 2 requires direct access to the frame buffer and cannot work with 3D accelerators that require textures to be square. An example of such technologies would be the nVida chipset, whose newest drivers force sqaure textures. In your "Display Properties" control panel if there is a page titled "RIVA 128", go to that page and disable the "use square textures only" option, then hit OK. Now try running Virtual Pool 2.

Problem: I have the DVD version and the movies are not playing.
Solution: This will happen when the game is not detecting a hardware MPEG decoder. If your computer has a hardware MPEG card you will want to contact your sytem manufacturer for proper drivers for the card.

Problem: Receiving error "Unable to load profile.dll. Reinstall Virtual Pool 2.".
Solution: This will occur if you have installed the game to a root of a drive (ie. D:\) instead of within a folder such as Program Files. You will want to uninstall the game and reinstall. When the game installation prompts you for the folder in which to install, we would recommend you keep the default directory structure and merely click OK.
